Day 3 – One day cruise to Saronic Gulf islands (Hydra, Poros, Aegina)
Breakfast at the hotel. Pick up in the morning and transfer to the port for embarkation to the cruise boat. Sailing for the One day Cruise around Saronic Gulf islands. At approx. 11.00 hrs arrival at Hydra island. Free time for shopping or strolling around beautiful streets. Departure from Hrdra island and at approx.. 13.30 hours arrival at Poros island. Free time for swimming or visiting the beautiful small town. Departure from Poros island to Aegina island where arriving at approx. 15.30 hours. Free time. LUNCH on board. At approx. 18.00 hrs start sail back to Athens. Tranfer back to the hotel. DINNER in a restaurant at Plaka. Overnight in Athens.
Day 4 – Tinos
Breakfast at the Hotel. Departure and transfer to the port and take the boat to Tinos. Arrival at Tinos island After check in, half day tour to the island. The island of Tinos is strongly connected to the Greek-Orthodox religion being the home to the famous church of Panagia Evangelistria (Virgin), the symbol of the island. However, visitors can see noteworthy ecclesiastical and architectural monuments of both Orthodox and Catholic religion that coexist at the main town and the nearby settlements. The island suggests countless examples of old and newly built churches and monasteries. The church of Panagia Evangelistria is the most important Orthodox pilgrimage site of Greece, dominating the centre of Tinos Town. It was built in 1823 on the site where the miraculous icon of Virgin was found. The church is an excellent example of religious architecture characterized by its well-decorated churches and courtyard. The Monastery of Agia Triada is equally worthseeing in Chora. It exists since 1610 in the island of Tinos and the monastery complex consists of a rich library, the monk cells and a folklore museum. LUNCH in a local restaurant. Afternoon free time. DINNER at the hotel. Overnight in Tinos.
Day 5: Tinos
Breakfast at the Hotel. Tinos is an island with strong religious and cultural identity, famous among the spiritual people and the pilgrims. It spans a rich history that begins from the prehistoric times. In the Archaeologicl Museum of Tinos visitors can view a wide collection with ancient findings like vessels and household items from the 5th century BC. The museum lies close to the famous church of Virgin Mary and the most important pieces come from the ancient temples of Demeter and Poseidon. In the village of Exoburgo lies the church of Sacred Heart. Today it is officially the most important pilgrimage site of the Greek Catholics. It was built in 1724 and within its premises you will see a cave dedicated to Panagia Lourdi and a war memorial. LUNCH in a local restaurant. Finally, in Loutra village lies the historical Monastery of Ursulines. It was built in 1862 and until 1980 it was regarded as the educational center of Tinos where many young girls from the wealthiest families of Greece attended. For some time the monastery operated as the primary school of Loutra village and today it is open to the public. Afternoon free. DINNER at the hotel and overnight in Tinos.
Day 6: Tinos, Delphi
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to the port and the take the boat to return in Rafina port and then drive to Delphi. Afternoon at leisure. DINNER at the hotel. Overnight in Delphi.
Day 7 – Delphi, Meteora
Breakfast at the Hotel. Departure from Athens to Delphi. Short stop in the picturesque village of Arachova, famous for its carpets. Then arrival at Delphi. Delphi was one of the two most important cultic centers in ancient Greece. People journeyed to Delphi from all over the ancient world to participate in religious ceremonies and to consult its oracle before making important decisions. Delphi has a rich mythology, religion, history and literature of ancient Greece, but, the beauty of the place itself demands that we pause and contemplate. We continue our private tour visiting the site and museum. LUNCH in a local restaurant. After lunch departure to Meteora. Afternoon free. DINNER at the hotel. Overnight in Meteora.
Day 8: Meteora
Breakfast at the Hotel. Our tour continues with exploring Meteora, an area of strange rock formations rising from the plain. You will wind your way through a forest of gigantic needle-like pillars, some as high as 1,820 feet above sea level. Back in the 14th century these inaccessible pinnacles offered a safe refuge to pious hermits and were later used as sites for hermits. We will visit Meteora Monasteries famous for their Byzantine museums perched precariously on huge finger-like rocks, exhibiting superb icons, old manuscripts and unique mosaics and frescoes. LUNCH in a local restaurant. Afternoon free. DINNER at the hotel and overnight in Meteora.
You will visit 2 monasteries among the:
- The Monastery of Great Meteoron. It is the biggest of the Meteorite monasteries.
- The Monastery of Varlaam is the second, after the Great Meteoron, big in size monastery.
- The Monastery of Rousanou. It is dedicated to ‘The Transfiguration’ but honoured to Saint Barbara.
- The Monastery of St. Nicholas Anapausas. It is the first to meet on our way from Kastraki to Meteora.
- The Monastery of St. Stephen. It is one of the most attainable as we don’t have to cope with innumerable stairs to reach it.
- The Monastery of Holy Trinity is very difficult to reach. The visitor has to cross the valley and continue high up through the rock before we arrive outside the entrance.
Day 9: Meteora, Athens
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, we’ll drive us back to Athens. Afternoon free in Athens. DINNER at a restaurant at Mikrolimano, Piraeus. Overnight in Athens.
Day 10: Athens
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Athens Airport for departure flight.
